If you buy it now and don't know how the game worked at the start (initial release), you will obviously like it, but developers should simply keep in mind that after the official release, only bug fixes should be made to a base game. The game that has been released has been changed from so many aspects that it's like a new game now, so after 1-2 years I stopped playing. Then the developers started to make radical changes or so-called improvements. The graphics are lovely, the sounds are good, the map editor is also entertaining.
:))) I loved the simple fact that your only goal is to !build! a kingdom that is resilient to invading forces and mother nature, plus you had to always consider the happiness rate of your kingdom. During the gameplay, the kingdom must survive against the dangerous world. The game is about the development of the country from a tiny hamlet to a sprawling city and imposing a beautiful castle. I'm inclined to believe them and would suggest picking up this title the next time it's on sale or even right now.
They've already released free, new content with the promise of more on the way.
If you enjoy traditional medieval RTS/City-Builder games (the Stronghold series comes to mind) then you will most likely enjoy Kingdoms and Castles. The game as is contains mostly basic content that you would expect: gathering resources, building structures, converting peasants into specific laborers/soldiers, fending off attacks, etc. From what I've read of their announcements, I can only see the value of their game increasing and a growing, happy fan-base. I was pleasantly surprised to see I was plainly wrong- the humble, talented folks behind Kingdoms and Castles have displayed a great interest in building and polishing their game, adding new and exciting content to a game that I firmly believe already justifies it's very fair price of $10.00. It wasn't great ( though I wouldn't say it was terrible) and from the actions of past, scummy developers, I had written it off as another disappointment that would languish in the pits of abandoned Steam games.
